Keys to Freedom & Healing
It is
our goal at IBCC to help people find freedom and healing from
past wounds that hinder their spiritual and emotional
maturity. It is important for our counselees to
understand that it is beyond the counselor's ability in
and of himself to provide freedom and healing. His
responsibility is simply pointing the counselee to the
Great Healer of our Souls, Jesus Christ. At IBCC, we
view the counselor as simply a facilitator of spiritual
freedom and healing, not the source of freedom and
healing.
To receive the greatest benefit from the counseling
sessions, it is imperative that our counselees take
personal responsibility for their healing. In evaluating
our most successful cases, we have found the following
keys to be true in the counselee's life. These
are non-negotiable essentials if true healing is to be
realized.
-
They surrendered themselves
to God with humility and courage (Psalm 139:23-24).
-
They separated themselves from any influence that
would
hinder their healing (2 Corinthians 6:18).
-
They
developed an intimate relationship with God through Bible
reading, prayer, Scripture meditation and
personalization,
and journaling (Jeremiah 29:13).
-
They understood
their position in Christ as a child of a loving
Heavenly Father (Romans 8:16).
-
They looked to God for wisdom and
revelation through His Word and through His Holy Spirit (James 1:5).
-
They
were willing to hear God speak to them (Hebrews
3:15).
-
They
became involved in a community of life-giving
believers (Hebrews 10:24-25).
-
They
took responsibility
for the works of their flesh and repented of sin
(Psalm 51:4).
-
They
were willing to open up their past
wounds to allow God's healing (Luke 4:18).
-
They
understood that healing is a process directed by God
(Jeremiah 17:14).
-
They
took responsibility for their
own maturity (1 Peter 2:2).
-
They
were willing to
apply the Armor of God in their spiritual battle against
Satan (Ephesians 6:11-12).
-
They understood how to
live out of their new heart in Christ (Ezekiel
36:26-27).
