Internship Program
In an effort to help hurting people, it is our goal to
equip others with effective counseling skills. One way
we seek to equip others is through our Internship
Program. The internship is customized to meet the needs
and time commitment of each intern. So then, whether you
are a pastor seeking to sharpen your counseling skills
or a college student interested in pursuing counseling
as a career, we are able to adapt the internship to meet
your needs.
3 Levels of the IBCC Internship
Program:
Learner Level
At this level, the intern sits under an IBCC counselor
usually as a prayer partner in the counseling sessions.
This gives the intern some exposure to a wide variety of
cases and how to resolve the issues addressed. Following
the sessions, the intern is able to debrief with the
counselor, reviewing the case and the solution given,
and asking any questions he/she may have.
At this level, the intern will also be required to read
suggested resources that give a foundational
understanding to spiritual warfare counseling.
Additional resources related to the intern's specific
interest (i.e. DID/Borderline Personality Disorder,
Depression, Marriage Conflict) may also be recommended
for study.
Encourager Level
At this level, the intern expands his/her experience to
encouraging clients and prospective counselees. This
would usually take the form of answering new intake
calls, understanding what their needs are, and
scheduling their appointments with an IBCC counselor.
It would also involve handling crisis calls and praying
with individuals over the phone.
Discipler Level
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gives the Great Commission:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you
alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Jesus
calls every believer to be a disciple-maker.
The goal of this final level of the internship is to
help the intern become a disciple-maker in the
environment of the counseling center, with the focus of
them taking their skills into the scope of their own
local church. Our desire is to train our interns to
point people to a meaningful and vibrant relationship
with the Savior, the Wonderful Counselor. At this point
in the internship, beginner level counseling cases will
be assigned to the intern so that he/she can gain
practical experience in counseling. These opportunities
will be under the direction and supervision of the IBCC
Director. Often, an intern's first assignment at this
level is taking a counselee through The Steps to
Freedom by Dr. Neil Anderson. This practical,
user-friendly resource is a great foundational tool for
the intern to gain experience using. Furthermore, it is a
great
resource for counselees looking for freedom from bondage.
